Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

What if Pac-Man stopped taking orders? That is the premise of Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, Namco's oddest and most experimental outing for its round yellow hero. Instead of steering him through a maze, you watch Pac-Man stroll through a side-scrolling cartoon town with a mind and moods of his own, and your only real tool is a slingshot.

Fire it at objects to draw his attention, point him toward a destination, or plink him directly to snap him out of a funk. His mood drives everything. Knock an apple from a tree and he brightens up; hit him in the face and he gets irritated or sulky; make him too happy and he turns smug and stops cooperating. Ghosts send him into a panic, but stash a power pellet in your inventory and he becomes Super Pac-Man, able to fly and gobble the ghosts in revenge. Between the puzzles are fast reflex sequences on a hang glider and in a minecart.

The story is built around everyday errands for the Pac family: fetching milk from the farm for Pac-Baby, finding a special birthday flower for Pac-Jr.'s friend Lucy, recovering Pac-Jr.'s guitar after ghosts steal it in Pac-City, and finally foiling a ghostly scheme that ends in a showdown with the Gum Monster, created by the Ghost Witch of Netor. The animation is expressive and full of slapstick, and Pac-Man's gibberish voice is a big part of the charm. Critics at the time called the indirect control an acquired taste, and it still divides players, which is exactly why it is worth experiencing.

The Genesis version has a few distinctions of its own. It was released only in North America, and it trades the Super NES version's unlockable Ms. Pac-Man for a different bonus game, Pac-Jr. Find the arcade in town and you can play the original Pac-Man too, which makes this a delightfully strange Namco cartridge to keep beside the classics it riffs on.

About the game

Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, known in Japan as Hello! Pac-Man, is a side-scrolling adventure game "sequel" to Pac-Man. Instead of being a maze game like the majority of its predecessors, Pac-Man 2 incorporates light point-and-click adventure game elements. It was produced and published by Namco for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis systems, and was released on April 6, 1994 by Namco. The game borrows its structure and certain elements from Pac-Land, and also appears to contain certain elements from the animated series, such as Pac-Man's family and a main villain commanding the ghosts. The Genesis version was not released in Japan or Europe.
