Item Description
The Island of Promises looks peaceful when the Straw Hat Pirates drop anchor, until they befriend Pato, a shape-shifting, raccoon-like tanuki, and most of the crew vanishes. One Piece: Unlimited World Red, developed by Ganbarion for Bandai Namco and the fifth game in the Unlimited sub-series, builds an original story around that mystery and the legendary pirate Patrick Redfield, the Red Count, leaving Captain Luffy to bring his friends home.
Combat is fast, crowd-clearing action. Nine Straw Hats are playable, and switching between crew members lets you take advantage of each one's style: Luffy's stretching limbs, Chopper's transformations and healing, Nami's weather magic. Chapters unfold as linear stages packed with destructible scenery, hidden chests and boss encounters that reward using the right crew member at the right time, and co-op lets a friend join the fight.
Between battles, Trans Town, the crew's hub on the island, becomes a project of its own. Materials gathered from smashed objects, fishing spots and bug catching feed a town-building system that grows the hub as the story progresses, giving the game a pleasant rhythm of adventure and downtime. A separate Battle Coliseum mode adds its own light storyline and unlockable characters, which gives completionists plenty to chase.
The bright, cel-shaded art captures Eiichiro Oda's designs faithfully, and the original Japanese voice cast is used throughout with English subtitles, so the crew sounds exactly as it does in the anime. First released in Japan in 2013 and brought West on the Vita in 2014, it puts a full-sized One Piece adventure in handheld form, with Pato's tale giving even longtime readers a story they have not seen before.
