Item Description

Nioh asks for patience and repays it with some of the most satisfying swordplay of its generation, and the Nioh Collection puts both of Team Ninja's samurai action RPGs on a single PlayStation 5 release. Published by Koei Tecmo in 2021, it gathers Nioh Remastered and Nioh 2 Remastered, each in its Complete Edition form with all three of its expansions, rebuilt with 4K resolution options, performance modes up to 120 frames per second on compatible displays, and much faster loading.

The first Nioh follows William, an Irish sailor washed up in Sengoku-era Japan in the years around the Battle of Sekigahara, chasing the alchemist Edward Kelley and the spirit stones that feed a land overrun by yokai. Combat is built on three stances, high, mid and low, that change the speed and reach of every weapon, and on the Ki Pulse, a well-timed button press that recovers stamina mid-combo. Guardian Spirits, onmyo magic and an enormous loot system give you endless ways to build a character. Its expansions, Dragon of the North, Defiant Honor and Bloodshed's End, carry the story deeper into the era's great conflicts.

Nioh 2 is a prequel and, for many players, the high point of the series. You create your own half-yokai warrior and fight alongside Tokichiro, the man history remembers as Toyotomi Hideyoshi, in an earlier chapter of the warring-states period. Yokai Shift lets you transform into a demonic form, the Burst Counter punishes a boss's red-glowing attacks, and Soul Cores let you borrow abilities from defeated monsters. The Tengu's Disciple, Darkness in the Capital and The First Samurai push the timeline back as far as the Heian period, and both games were designed with co-op summoning and visiting allies woven into their structure.

These are difficult games in the best sense, with bosses that punish mistakes and a combat system deep enough that people are still finding new builds years later. Having both campaigns and all six expansions together is the cleanest way to take on the full saga, and on PS5 the higher frame rates make Team Ninja's fast, precise combat feel the way it was always meant to.
