Item Description

A detective, an alien conspiracy and a game that refuses to stay in one genre: Vice: Project Doom is one of the NES library's stranger, more cinematic action games, and Nintendo Power Volume 24 put it on the cover of the May 1991 issue. Detective Quinn Hart's case moves between side-scrolling action stages, driving sections and first-person shooting galleries, so the feature's breakdown of what each stage asks of you was welcome help.

The supporting lineup is a wonderful early-'90s mix. The Rocketeer, The Lone Ranger and The Adventures of Lolo 3 get features on the NES side, while the Game Boy pages cover Gauntlet II, Mysterium, Battle Unit Zeoth and Nintendo World Cup. Classified Information turns up secrets for Mega Man III, Maniac Mansion and Silver Surfer. Pak Watch is a time capsule all by itself, listing Battletoads, TaleSpin, Mega Man 4 and Ninja Gaiden III among the games on the horizon, alongside Earthbound, the NES localization of Mother that never made it to store shelves.

Vice has since picked up a cult following, and this is the coverage from when it was brand new. Slot it beside the cartridge, or use it to fill a gap in an NES-era run of the magazine.
