Item Description

Shredder has torn Manhattan from the ground and hung it in the sky, and four turtles have to fight their way back to it. That's the setup Nintendo Power Volume 33 dives into with an eight-page cover story on Konami's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project, complete with maps for the first six scenes and a look at the bosses waiting at the end of them. For a two-player NES brawler that rewarded knowing what was coming next, those maps were gold.

The February 1992 issue catches Nintendo straddling two generations. NES coverage continues with G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor, Rampart and The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World, while the young Super NES gets pages on The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Wanderers from Ys and the Super Scope 6 light gun. Game Boy owners get maps for Gradius: The Interstellar Assault and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Counselors' Corner tackles Final Fantasy II, ActRaiser and Crystalis, and Pak Watch looks ahead to Contra III.

It's a lively, colorful read from the height of Turtle mania, when the heroes in a half shell were everywhere from Saturday morning cartoons to the arcade. Pair it with a cartridge of The Manhattan Project, or use it to fill a gap in an early-'90s run of the magazine.
