Item Description

Hyrule has a shadow. In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, nearly every forest, village and lake has a twisted counterpart in the Dark World, and slipping between the two is what made Link's Super NES quest feel enormous. Nintendo Power Volume 34 gave the game its March 1992 cover in the weeks before it reached North American stores.

The rest of the issue is just as fun to revisit. The NES section covers The Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2, NightShade and M.C. Kids, the Game Boy pages turn to Mega Man II and Tiny Toon Adventures, and Lemmings and Joe & Mac join Zelda in the Super NES lineup. Counselors' Corner tackles Lagoon, Drakkhen, Dragon Warrior III and Metroid II, Classified Information collects codes for ActRaiser, SimCity and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, and the Zelda, Super Mario Bros. and Nester's Adventures comics round it out.

A Link to the Past set the template for much of the series that followed, from the Master Sword to the dual-world twist, and this cover gave it the spotlight right before launch. It is a centerpiece for a Zelda collection and a high point of early Super NES-era Nintendo Power.
