Item Description

Dinosaur Land was brand-new territory in the fall of 1991. The Super NES had just reached North American shelves with Super Mario World packed in, and Nintendo Power Volume 28 put the game on its September 1991 cover, celebrating a world full of Cape Feather flights, secret exits, hidden Star Road warps and the thrill of hatching a Yoshi for the first time.

Inside, the issue shows a magazine stretching to cover three systems at once. Super Mario World leads a lineup of features that also includes Star Wars, Smash TV, Kick Master and Wurm on the NES, while an SNES Showcase spotlights Castlevania IV, SimCity and Final Fight. The Game Boy pages turn to Final Fantasy Adventure, Tecmo Bowl and Marble Madness, Counselors' Corner helps with StarTropics and Ninja Gaiden III, and Classified Information digs up codes for Mega Man III, Castlevania III and Kabuki.

Super Mario World became the model 2D Mario was measured against for years, and this issue catches it at launch alongside an early Super NES showcase of Final Fight and SimCity. It is a pivotal stop on the road from the NES to the 16-bit era and a strong pull for a Mario shelf.
