Item Description

Simon Belmont's whip had never moved like this. Super Castlevania IV let it crack in eight directions, dangle and swing loose at the press of a button, and latch onto rings to carry Simon across chasms, all set against moody castle halls and rotating rooms that showed off what the Super NES could do. Nintendo Power Volume 32 opened 1992 with Konami's gothic showpiece on its January cover.

The issue is a great look at a new console finding its footing. The Super NES section also covers True Golf Classics: Waianae Country Club and Super Off Road and offers an early look at The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past months before it reached stores. NES players get Mega Man 4, Monster in My Pocket and Tecmo Super Bowl, the Game Boy pages cover Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Back from the Sewers and Prince of Persia, and Classified Information collects codes for ActRaiser, F-Zero, Gradius III and Super R-Type.

Super Castlevania IV showed how a classic NES series could grow up on 16-bit hardware, and this cover catches it at the moment of arrival, with A Link to the Past already waiting in the wings a few pages later. That pairing makes it a standout for a Castlevania shelf or an early Super NES-era Nintendo Power run.
