Item Description

Bill and Lance are back, and the alien invasion has only gotten bigger. Nintendo Power Volume 12 gave its May/June 1990 cover to Super C, Konami's NES sequel to Contra, a run-and-gun that kept the original's two-player mayhem and spread gun while mixing in overhead stages that switch the action to a top-down view.

The surrounding pages capture the NES at full stride. Final Fantasy gets a feature ahead of its North American debut, alongside DynoWarz, Code Name: Viper and Burai Fighter, while previews point toward Ninja Gaiden II, StarTropics, Crystalis and Golgo 13: The Mafat Conspiracy. The Game Boy section covers Batman, Gargoyle's Quest, Qix and Daedalian Opus, Counselors' Corner works through Willow, Shadowgate and Ironsword: Wizards & Warriors II, and Classified Information serves up codes for Super Mario Bros. 3, Mega Man II and River City Ransom.

Super C's cover sits right in the middle of Konami's run-and-gun heyday, and an issue that touches Final Fantasy, Ninja Gaiden II and StarTropics in the same breath shows how much was happening on the NES in 1990. It is a rewarding piece of the bimonthly early years of a Nintendo Power collection.
