Item Description

In the summer of 1992 the biggest question in gaming was whether a home console could stand up to the Street Fighter II arcade cabinet. Nintendo Power Volume 38 put Capcom's fighting phenomenon on its July 1992 cover just as the Super NES version arrived, giving the eight World Warriors, from Ryu and Ken to Chun-Li, Guile, Blanka, Zangief, Dhalsim and E. Honda, the spotlight for players who were finally taking the fight into their living rooms.

It turned out to be a very Capcom month. Beyond the cover story, the issue covers Magic Sword on the Super NES and Capcom's Gold Medal Challenge '92 on the NES, while Counselors' Corner tackles Mega Man IV and Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts. Elsewhere you'll find NCAA Basketball, Panic Restaurant, Might and Magic and the Game Boy's Wave Race, Classified Information codes for the likes of Smash TV, Operation C and R-Type, and the serialized Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. comics.

Street Fighter II rewired how people thought about competitive games, and this issue catches the exact moment that shift crossed from the arcade to the Super NES. It is a sharp pickup for a fighting game shelf, a Capcom collection or a Nintendo Power run working through the early 16-bit years.
