Item Description

A gateway buried under the Egyptian sands, a desert world ruled by the sun god Ra, and a military team that has no idea what waits on the other side: the 1994 film Stargate, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader, was made for a video game adaptation. Nintendo Power Volume 71 gave the Super NES game its cover in April 1995.

Inside, the full-coverage lineup is a fascinating mix of mid-’90s licenses and Nintendo favorites: Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Addams Family Values, The Lion King on Game Boy and Mario’s Picross, the puzzle game that brought picture-logic grids to the handheld. Shorter reviews cover Bonkers, Pac-In-Time and Bust-a-Move, and Now Playing takes in Ogre Battle and International Superstar Soccer. Classified Information digs into Super Punch-Out!!, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure and Earthworm Jim, while Counselor’s Corner helps with Mega Man X, Robotrek, Demon’s Crest and Wario Land.

Spring 1995 was the Super NES in its late, confident years, with ambitious releases still arriving every month, and this issue captures that moment with a sci-fi blockbuster leading the way.
