Item Description

In Power Blade, Nova storms through a futuristic city armed with a power boomerang, tracking down contacts sector by sector to restore a sabotaged master computer. Taito’s action platformer has a punchy, arcade-tough feel and a hero who looks like he stepped off an action-movie poster, and Nintendo Power Volume 23 put him front and center in April 1991.

The cover feature is joined by coverage of Totally Rad, Sword Master, S.C.A.T. and Monopoly, while the Game Boy section takes in The Sword of Hope, R-Type and Mickey’s Dangerous Chase. Now Playing reviews Double Dragon III, The Uninvited, Zombie Nation and The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants, and Counselor’s Corner works through The Immortal, Destiny of an Emperor, StarTropics and The Final Fantasy Legend. Pak Watch is crammed with titles on the horizon, from Battletoads and Mega Man 4 to Star Trek: 25th Anniversary.

Power Blade never became a household name, which makes seeing it lead the magazine a real treat for NES action fans. It is a vivid snapshot of the spring before the Super NES arrived, when the NES library was at its most adventurous.
