Item Description

Football season on the Nintendo 64 was a two-horse race in the fall of 1997, and Nintendo Power Volume 102 puts both horses on the field. Acclaim's NFL Quarterback Club headlines alongside EA's Madden 64: one was the system's showcase for sharp high-resolution graphics and an official NFL license, the other arrived without the league license but with Madden's deep playbook pedigree. Seeing them side by side in one issue is a perfect slice of the early N64 era.

The strategy pages keep the momentum going with San Francisco Rush, ClayFighter 63 1/3, Top Gear Rally and Duke Nukem 64, while late Super NES and Game Boy releases Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Donkey Kong Land III show the older hardware was not done yet. Previews look ahead to Diddy Kong Racing and Dual Heroes, and Classified Information dishes out codes for heavy hitters like GoldenEye 007, Star Fox 64 and Mario Kart 64.

It captures that thrilling first stretch of N64 ownership, when every issue promised the next big 3D leap and a well-timed code could change your whole weekend. Few issues show the N64's first football rivalry this clearly.
