Item Description

The Nintendo 64 had only just reached North America when Nintendo Power Volume 89 put Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the cover, and Midway's all-in fighter was a bold showcase for the new hardware. Trilogy pulled fighters from across the first three games, bringing back favorites like Johnny Cage, Raiden and Baraka next to the Mortal Kombat 3 cast, and added an Aggressor meter that powered up a fighter once it filled. The feature gave players what they needed for that crowded roster: moves, finishers and fighter-by-fighter help.

The surrounding pages capture two generations of Nintendo hardware side by side. On the Super NES, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Tetris Attack and Prince of Persia 2 all get full coverage. On the N64 front there are Class P strategies for Pilotwings 64, a preview of Wave Race 64, a report on the system's Canadian debut, a Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire comic and a "Meet Mr. Miyamoto" feature with Nintendo's most famous designer.

A 64-bit fighting game, a Miyamoto profile and Dixie and Kiddy's trek through the Northern Kremisphere all in one issue: Volume 89 is a fun snapshot of the fall when 3D gaming arrived in North American living rooms.
