Item Description

September 1994 was a big month to be a Super NES owner, and Nintendo Power Volume 64 shows exactly why. Mortal Kombat II fronts the issue, and this was the version that changed the conversation: after the first game's toned-down Super NES release, Nintendo let the sequel arrive with its blood and Fatalities intact, putting the full arcade brutality in living rooms.

The rest of the issue is a tour through a crowded fall lineup. Reviews cover Super Bomberman 2, Pocky & Rocky 2, Blizzard's cinematic platformer Blackthorne, the airline-tycoon sim Aerobiz Supersonic and the Super FX-powered Vortex, with Game Boy coverage including The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Classified Information serves up codes for games like TMNT: Tournament Fighters and The King of Dragons, and Counselors' Corner and Now Playing round out the classic Nintendo Power format.

Flipping through it today is like opening a time capsule from the height of the 16-bit fighting game craze, when playground debates over secret characters and finishing moves ran on magazine tips and whispered codes, and Nintendo had finally let Kombat be Kombat.
