Item Description

Mega Man went portable in 1991, and he did not take it easy. Nintendo Power Volume 27 gives the cover to Mega Man in Dr. Wily's Revenge, the Blue Bomber's first Game Boy adventure, which pits him against Cut Man, Ice Man, Elec Man and Fire Man from the original NES game before bringing back Quick Man, Bubble Man, Flash Man and Heat Man from Mega Man 2. Waiting at the end is Enker, a brand-new Mega Man Killer whose Mirror Buster soaks up shots and fires them back, and the game earned a reputation as a tough, full-strength Mega Man rather than a lighter handheld spin-off.

Timing makes this issue special. August 1991 was the month the Super NES launched in North America, and Volume 27 has special features on Super Mario World, Gradius III and ActRaiser right alongside its NES coverage of Ninja Gaiden III, Dragon Warrior II and III, and Darkman. Game Boy owners also get Final Fantasy Legend II and Days of Thunder, and Classified Information and Counselors' Corner both dig into Battletoads, Rare's notoriously difficult brawler.

The NES, the Game Boy and a brand-new 16-bit console all sharing the same pages make Volume 27 a true crossroads issue, with Mega Man leading the charge.
