Item Description

Somewhere in the Edison family’s mansion, a purple tentacle is plotting world domination, Dr. Fred is up to something in the lab, and Dave just wants Sandy back. Maniac Mansion, Lucasfilm Games’ sharp-witted point-and-click adventure, let you pick two friends to join Dave, and each choice opened different solutions and endings.

Nintendo Power Volume 16 put the NES version on its cover in late 1990 with a strategy feature for navigating the Edisons’ house of horrors. The issue also features Final Fantasy, Snake Rattle ’n’ Roll, Mission: Impossible, Kickle Cubicle, Rollergames and NES Play Action Football, and previews Little Nemo: The Dream Master, Dragon Warrior II, Solar Jetman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game. Counselor’s Corner tackles Crystalis, Shadowgate and Snake’s Revenge.

Pak Watch is a treat for anyone who loves NES history, with Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Dr. Mario, Mega Man 3 and Metal Storm all listed as games on the horizon. A computer adventure classic on the cover of a console magazine makes this an unusual and appealing issue, and a lovely link between two very different corners of late-’80s gaming.
