Item Description

How many can you save? That question powered Lemmings, DMA Design’s brilliant puzzle game about a stream of green-haired creatures marching blindly toward doom unless you hand out the right jobs at the right moment: climbers, floaters, builders, blockers, bashers, miners, diggers and, when all else fails, bombers.

Nintendo Power Volume 37, from June 1992, gives the lemmings the cover and a strategy feature, and it is a refreshing sight in a magazine usually led by sword-swingers and shooters. Elsewhere the NES section covers Dragonstrike and Stanley: The Search for Dr. Livingston, the Super NES pages feature Arcana, Top Gear, F1 ROC and Krusty’s Super Fun House, and the Game Boy section brings Metroid II: Return of Samus and Star Wars. Counselor’s Corner helps with Final Fantasy II, Mega Man IV and Prince of Persia, while Classified Information covers TMNT III: The Manhattan Project, Smash TV and Faceball 2000.

The serialized Zelda and Super Mario Bros. comics round out an issue that captures the Super NES finding its feet beside an NES that was still going strong. It is a fun piece of 1992 for puzzle lovers and anyone who still hears that tiny “Oh no!” in their head.
