A snot-wielding superhero, a level where you bounce falling puppies to safety with a giant marshmallow, and a villain named Psy-Crow: Earthworm Jim 2 was as strange as the 16-bit era ever got, and Nintendo Power Volume 83 leans into the madness with a code-packed Earthworm Jim 2 special. Shiny Entertainment's sequel gave Jim his trusty sidekick Snott, who doubles as a parachute, and the coverage here helps readers squeeze every trick out of the Super NES version.

This April 1996 issue also gives a sense of what was coming. Special features look ahead to Shadows of the Empire and Killer Instinct 2, and Epic Center starts its Super Mario RPG coverage with Part One, plus a look at Tactics Ogre. Kirby's Block Ball, The Smurfs, Pocahontas and Power Piggs of the Dark Age get full coverage, and Counselors' Corner helps with Mortal Kombat 3 and Breath of Fire II.

Between Jim's slapstick and the first stirrings of the Nintendo 64, it is a wonderfully odd and lively issue from a transitional year.
