Item Condition

This is Nintendo Power Volume 61 (June 1994), featuring Donkey Kong for Game Boy, and it includes its original fold-out poster. All pages are intact, with minor shelf wear on the cover and spine. Look over the photos for condition and details. It ships carefully packed and protected.

Item Description

It starts exactly like the 1981 arcade game, girders, barrels and all, and then the Game Boy's Donkey Kong pulls the rug out. After the four classic stages, DK grabs Pauline and runs, and the game turns into a sprawling puzzle-platformer full of keys, switches and Mario acrobatics like handstands and backflips. Fans still call it Donkey Kong '94, and Nintendo Power Volume 61 gives this reinvention the coverage it deserved.

The timing is perfect, because this June 1994 issue also runs a special feature on the brand-new Super Game Boy, and Donkey Kong was built to show it off with color and a custom border. Elsewhere, Illusion of Gaia gets a preview, Secret of Mana gets a special, and the fighting-game boom is everywhere with ClayFighter: Tournament Edition, Saturday Night Slammasters and Fatal Fury 2. The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang and Beauty and the Beast round out the reviews.

Classified Information covers Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, NBA Jam and Mega Man X, and the magazine's Metroid comic continues. It is a smart pickup built around a handheld game that turned a 13-year-old arcade classic into something entirely new.
