Item Description

Capcom had a gift for turning Disney Afternoon cartoons into excellent NES games, and Darkwing Duck is a prime example: a sharp action platformer with plenty of Mega Man DNA in its pick-your-stage structure, starring the masked mallard and his trusty gas gun as he takes on F.O.W.L. across St. Canard.

Nintendo Power Volume 36, from May 1992, gives Darkwing the cover and a feature built to help you clean up the city. The NES section continues with Wacky Races and RoboCop 3, while the Super NES pages are stacked with Contra III: The Alien Wars, Xardion, Super Adventure Island and Super Soccer Showdown. Counselor’s Corner works through The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, The Adventures of Lolo III and The Uninvited, and the serialized Zelda and Super Mario Bros. comics keep things lively between strategy spreads.

Sharp-eyed readers will also spot Work Boy, a Game Boy organizer accessory from this period that never actually reached stores, which makes its appearance here a fun curiosity. Spring 1992 was a moment when the NES and Super NES shared the spotlight almost evenly, and this issue captures that crossover with a cartoon hero who still makes Disney Afternoon fans grin.
