Item Description

Gotham is buried in snow, the Red Triangle Circus Gang is pouring out of every alley, and Nintendo Power Volume 48 has the game plan. This issue rolls out coverage of Konami's Super NES version of Batman Returns, a side-scrolling brawler that pits the Dark Knight against the Penguin, Catwoman and a parade of clown-faced thugs, and the screenshots show how much of Tim Burton's gothic city Konami squeezed onto a 16-bit cartridge.

Turn the page and spring 1993 opens up. The Lost Vikings gets the spotlight, with its three squabbling Norsemen and their clever split-the-party puzzles, from the studio that would soon rename itself Blizzard. Data East's cyberpunk RPG Shadowrun is here too, alongside Kirby's Adventure bringing the pink puffball to the NES and an early look at The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for Game Boy, months before it reached store shelves.

The magazine's own Star Fox comic runs inside, and Classified Information digs up codes for Super Star Wars and Star Fox. It is a snapshot of a moment when a movie tie-in, a puzzle game from a future giant and a handheld Zelda could all share the same issue, and it makes for a terrific read decades later.
