Item Description

One hundred issues in, Nintendo Power paused to settle the biggest playground argument of all: what are the best Nintendo games ever made? The September 1997 issue answered with The 100 Best Games of All Time, a ten-page countdown spanning the NES, Super NES, Game Boy and the brand-new Nintendo 64.

The rest of the issue leans into the milestone too, with features like the 100 Best Codes Ever and 100 Things That Equal 100, plus a big GoldenEye 007 strategy section built around the game's best ambushes. The preview pages are a time capsule of the N64's most exciting stretch: Zelda 64, the game that would become Ocarina of Time, alongside Banjo-Kazooie, Yoshi's Story and Conker's Quest, an early version of what eventually turned into Conker's Bad Fur Day. And of course the regulars are all here, from Player's Pulse and Counselor's Corner to Classified Information and Pak Watch.

Few single issues capture the magazine's personality as well as this one. It is part retrospective, part hype machine, and all late-'90s Nintendo, a fun read for anyone who once waited by the mailbox for the next issue and a centerpiece for a Nintendo Power run.
