Complete in box: the cartridge, the manual and the box, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. For the specifics, look to the photos — they're of this exact item. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

NHL 95 is the edition where EA's hockey series learned to think in seasons. Earlier games were built around exhibition and playoff runs; this one lets you guide a team through a full 84-game schedule, with injuries that can knock a key player out for a stretch of games and full control over trades and player creation to patch the holes. Suddenly the cartridge was not just a two-player grudge match but a franchise you could manage for weeks.

On the ice, EA promised the fastest action in the series to date, and the top-down view keeps all of it readable as passes snap across the rink. New moves added texture to every shift: dummy shots that fake out a goalie, and lie-down blocks for throwing your body in front of a slapshot. Penalties can be switched on for a more realistic game or turned off when you just want end-to-end chaos, and real NHL teams, rosters and player ratings mean you can suit up for your actual franchise.

Developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts, it belongs to the stretch of mid-'90s EA Sports hockey that many players still measure every later hockey game against. Two players can share the couch, one per team, and that head-to-head rivalry is where these games earned their reputation.

The pairing of quick, arcade-feeling hockey with the series' first real management layer is what makes NHL 95 worth playing now. It is the 16-bit hockey game to pick when you want to build a dynasty over an entire season, not just win the next game.

About the game

NHL '95 was EA Sports' third licensed ice hockey game, promising the fastest action in the series to date. The action is viewed top-down, and can be played with or without realistic penalties. There is a full season mode, allowing you to guide a team through all 84 matches, with the option of injuries potentially putting players out of a sequence of matches. You have full control over trading and creating players for your squad. New in-game moves include dummy shots and lie-down blocks.
