Seven-on-seven, no referees fussing over penalties and a premium on showboating: NFL Street 3 is football played the way it gets played in a backyard, with real NFL teams and players doing the trash talking. Released by EA Sports BIG in 2006, it was the third and final entry in the Street series, and it brings the full arcade formula to the PSP.
Style is the engine of every game. Flashy catches, jukes and throws build your Gamebreaker meter, and once it is full you can unleash a Gamebreaker on offense or defense, a devastating hit, a highlight-reel run or a game-changing interception. NFL Street 3 adds new Power moves and lets you take more control during a Gamebreaker, while aerial moves and modifiers hovering above the field add an extra layer of chaos. Lean on style too much, though, and a costly turnover is never far away, which keeps the risk and reward honest.
Matches are short, loud and easy to pick up, and the game supports multiplayer showdowns for settling scores with friends. With its 2006-season rosters and the over-the-top swagger of EA Sports BIG at its peak, it is a fun time capsule of mid-2000s football and the last chapter of the series on a handheld.
