Magic: The Gathering single: Nexus of Fate, from Buy-a-Box Promos. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Seven mana for one extra turn sounds fair until you read the second line. Whenever Nexus of Fate would go to a graveyard from anywhere, whether it resolves, gets countered, is discarded or is milled, you reveal it and shuffle it back into your library instead. The card simply refuses to stay gone, and in a deck that draws enough cards and makes enough mana, each copy becomes a source of turn after turn for as long as your library holds out.
That self-recycling clause made Nexus of Fate a lightning rod in 2018 and 2019, when it powered instant-speed extra-turn decks built around untapping lands at the end of a turn. Players either relished the spectacle or groaned whenever it was revealed, and that reputation is a big part of its charm today. In Commander it slots neatly into blue extra-turn and big-mana decks, and it doubles as quiet insurance against mill, since milling it just sends it back into your deck.
This is the Core Set 2019 Buy-a-Box promo, collector number 306, illustrated by Mike Bierek, in foil. This version reached players as a bonus for buying a booster box at a local game store.
