Item Description
Necrotic Ooze doesn't have abilities of its own. It borrows everyone else's. As long as it is on the battlefield, this four-mana black 4/3 has every activated ability of every creature card in every graveyard, yours and your opponents' alike, and it can use all of them.
That makes it one of Magic's great combo playgrounds. Stock your graveyard with creatures that have powerful activated abilities, using self-mill or tutors like Buried Alive and Entomb, and the Ooze becomes a custom-built engine that can untap itself, ping, sacrifice or draw depending on what you put there. In Commander it only gets better as the game goes on, because every creature your opponents lose adds another tool to its kit. Building around it is a puzzle, and solving it is half the reward.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing from the 2020 Prime Slime drop, collector number 133, a borderless non-foil illustrated by Wizard of Barge. The flavor text is a treat: “It looks like currant jam, smells like death, and tastes a bit like both.”
