Magic: The Gathering single: Necropotence, from Secret Lair 30th Anniversary Countdown Kit. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Look at the collector number: 1995. The Secret Lair 30th Anniversary Countdown Kit numbered each card by a year of Magic's history, and Necropotence was the obvious pick for 1995, the year Ice Age introduced it and the card that would soon fuel the famous Necro Summer.
The card itself is as hungry as ever. For three black mana you give up your draw step entirely, and in return you can pay 1 life at any moment to exile the top card of your library face down, collecting those cards at your next end step. Discarded cards get exiled rather than hitting the graveyard. It turns your life total into a resource you spend like mana, which is thrilling in Commander's 40-life games and terrifying in the hands of a combo player looking for one last piece.
This is the Secret Lair 30th Anniversary Countdown Kit printing, collector number 1995, a full-art borderless card illustrated by Rafal Wechterowicz (credited as Too Many Skulls), in non-foil. The poster-style art gives a piece of Magic history a modern showcase, a natural fit for a black deck or a collection celebrating the game's first three decades.
