Item Description
Mudhole is a deep cut, and that is exactly its appeal. This Odyssey-era red instant costs three mana and does one very specific thing: target player exiles all land cards from their graveyard. Nothing else in that graveyard is touched, and since it is an instant, you get to choose the perfect moment.
Against the right deck, that moment is devastating. Strategies that recur lands from the graveyard, replay them turn after turn or treat a graveyard full of lands as a resource lose their whole engine to one well-timed Mudhole, and because it is an instant, you can cast it in response to their recursion. In Commander it is a sharp answer for a playgroup that loves land recursion, and a fun pick for players who enjoy surprising the table with an unexpected silver bullet. It is narrow by design, which is what makes it so satisfying when it connects.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 62, illustrated by Titus Lunter, in foil. Lunter is known for sweeping, atmospheric landscapes, a fitting artist for a card that is all about the land.
