Some games just want you to floor it, and Monster Trucks Mayhem is one of them. This 2009 Wii racer from Team 6, published by Zoo Games, keeps things simple: turn the Wii Remote sideways like a classic NES pad, tilt to steer, and plow through anything that gets between your truck and the finish line.

Races are two-lap sprints against three rival trucks across seven environments, and smashing obstacles along the way is part of the strategy, since demolition feeds your nitro boost. Button 2 is the gas, Button 1 the brake, and a tap of A or B fires the nitro. Between races, task events change the pace with challenges like wrecking objects against the clock or launching off mountaintops to hit targets, which reviewers called the most fun part of the package. Twenty events, seven bonus events and eight trucks to choose from make up the career.

It is a budget arcade racer and plays like one. There is no multiplayer, the courses repeat in reverse to fill out the event list, and the trucks differ more in looks than in handling. What it offers is pure, uncomplicated big-tire fun on the Wii, the kind of game that suits a younger driver or a monster truck fan who simply wants to crush cars and catch air.
