Item Description

The first time a Rathalos swoops into the Ancient Forest in the middle of somebody else's fight, the scale of Monster Hunter: World clicks. Capcom's 2018 PlayStation 4 release rebuilt the series for a global audience, trading the handheld-era zones and loading screens for huge, seamless ecosystems where monsters hunt, feed, sleep and brawl with each other whether you are watching or not. You arrive in the New World with the Fifth Fleet to investigate the Elder Crossing, a migration of ancient dragons led by the volcanic colossus Zorah Magdaros.

Every hunt is a study in preparation and pursuit. Scoutflies pick up tracks and lead you to your quarry, the slinger fires stones and flash pods, and the environment is a weapon of its own, from vine traps and falling boulders to luring one monster into another's territory. Fourteen weapon types each play like a different game, from the Great Sword's huge charged swings to the Insect Glaive's aerial acrobatics and the Hunting Horn's support melodies, and carving monsters for parts to forge stronger armor and weapons drives the endlessly satisfying loop of chasing bigger prey.

The bestiary is superb: Anjanath stomping through the forest, Diablos bursting out of the sands of the Wildspire Waste, Legiana gliding above the Coral Highlands and the spiked Elder Dragon Nergigante, the game's signature beast. Back in Astera, a hearty canteen meal sets your buffs before each hunt, and your Palico fights at your side. It was built for up to four hunters to team up online, and the biggest fights are designed with a squad in mind.

World became the best-selling game in the series and the moment Monster Hunter went from a cult favorite in the West to a worldwide phenomenon, paving the way for Rise and Wilds. On PlayStation 4, it is the full base-game adventure, a hunting campaign that easily fills dozens of hours and keeps rewarding you for learning one more weapon.
