The road to the majors in MLB The Show 25 starts in a high school dugout. San Diego Studio rebuilt Road to the Show so your player begins as a teenager, where playoff performances shape the college offers that arrive, and each offer comes with its own school-specific bonuses. Eight real programs are in the mix, among them LSU, Vanderbilt, Texas, UCLA and TCU, before the MLB draft decides where your pro career begins, with Robert Flores and Jessica Mendoza on the call. Every action can earn or cost points that nudge your ratings up or down, so even a rough stretch in the college season carries weight.

At the plate, the new Ambush hitting lets you sit on a location and guess where the pitch is headed, trading a little risk for a slight edge when you read the pitcher right. Runners picked up tag-dodging slides triggered with a timed stick input, and updated stadium lighting and character animations sharpen the broadcast look. Ballpark atmosphere gets a new layer too, as Renel Brooks-Moon and Adrienne Roberson join Alex Miniak on public address duty.

Diamond Dynasty, the card-collecting heart of the series, added Diamond Quest, a rogue-lite run played out on a game board as you push toward a "Stadium" boss, where every move is a risk-and-reward call. The mode tracks thousands of player cards across all thirty MLB rosters and moves through seasonal cycles. For players who prefer history to grinding, the third season of Storylines: The Negro Leagues tells the stories of James "Cool Papa" Bell, Wilber "Bullet Joe" Rogan, Norman "Turkey" Stearnes and Walter "Buck" Leonard, narrated by Bob Kendrick of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

MLB The Show 25 was the first entry to leave the PS4 and Xbox One behind, and it landed well with critics, who singled out the revamped Road to the Show; it went on to earn a D.I.C.E. Award nomination for Sports Game of the Year. Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz and Gunnar Henderson shared cover duties, a fitting trio for a game so interested in how young players rise. Sony's baseball series has been on Xbox since 2021, and on Series X this is the year to start a career from scratch, from a high school diamond to a big-league clubhouse.
