Item Description
Base Set 2 had a simple, generous idea: take the best of the original Base Set and Jungle, gather it into one 130-card set and put those first-generation holos back on store shelves in 2000. For players who arrived a little late to the craze, it was the way to finally pull the classics, and Mewtwo was among the most wanted of them.
Ken Sugimori's original artwork returns here, the same clean, early-era illustration that defined Mewtwo's first appearance in the card game, now carrying the Base Set 2 numbering. The Pokédex text keeps the menace intact, describing a Pokémon born from years of horrific gene-splicing and DNA engineering experiments.
On the table, Mewtwo is a 60-HP Basic Psychic Pokémon. Its Psychic attack does 10 damage plus 10 more for each Energy card attached to the Defending Pokémon, a clever punishment for opponents who power up big attackers. Barrier discards an Energy card from Mewtwo to prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to it during your opponent's next turn, a defensive trick that can stall a game at the perfect moment.
This is the Base Set 2 printing, collector number 10/130, a holofoil rare illustrated by Ken Sugimori, and a great companion for a Base Set Mewtwo or a complete Base Set 2 holo run.
