Item Description
Metroid Fusion arrived on the Game Boy Advance in 2002 and immediately established itself as one of the most atmospheric and narratively driven games in the entire Metroid series. Set after the events of Super Metroid, Fusion strips Samus Aran of her familiar arsenal and throws her into the BSL Research Station overrun by the X Parasite — a shapeshifting threat that can mimic any organism it absorbs. The tension is constant and deliberate. Nintendo and R&D1 crafted something that felt genuinely unnerving on a handheld, and it holds up remarkably well.
What makes Fusion stand apart from other entries is the SA-X — a near-perfect copy of Samus in her full Power Suit, stalking the station and actively hunting you throughout the game. The encounters with the SA-X are among the most memorable in 2D action-adventure history, building a sense of dread that most console games struggle to achieve. The level design is tight and interconnected in the classic Metroidvania tradition, rewarding exploration while funneling the story forward with more urgency than the series had shown before.
