Set in 1974 Central America and picking up after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Peace Walker follows Big Boss as he builds up his mercenary nation, Militaires Sans Frontières, and confronts a mysterious CIA-backed military force with ties to a nuclear weapon. The story is vintage Hideo Kojima — dense with Cold War politics, philosophy, and genuine emotional weight, told through an innovative series of comic-style cutscenes that give the whole game a unique visual personality.

What makes Peace Walker stand apart from nearly everything else on the PSP is the sheer scale of what it asks you to do. Rather than a single linear campaign, the game is structured around a base-building meta-layer called Mother Base, where you recruit soldiers, develop weapons and equipment, and manage an entire living operation between missions.
