A year has passed, Zero is dragging himself across an endless desert, and Neo Arcadia's forces are still coming. Mega Man Zero 2 opens on that bleak, beautiful note and barely lets up. Inti Creates took the hard-edged action of the first Mega Man Zero and sharpened nearly every part of it, and many fans rank this sequel as the best-balanced game in the series.
The Resistance has a new commander, Elpizo, whose push to strike Neo Arcadia head-on sends the story spiraling toward disaster as he goes looking for the mysterious Dark Elf. Ciel is still fighting for the Resistance's future, and the surviving Guardians, Harpuia, Fefnir and Leviathan, stand in Zero's way again, each with a distinct fighting style to learn.
The big new idea is the Form system. Play missions in particular ways and Zero unlocks alternate Forms that shift his stats and abilities, letting you tune him to your playstyle. EX Skills debut here too: defeat a boss while holding an A or S mission rank and Zero learns that boss's signature technique, which turns the series' strict ranking system into something worth chasing. The Chain Rod joins the Z-Saber, Buster Shot and Shield Boomerang, swinging Zero across gaps and yanking enemies and items toward him, and weapons still level up through use, so mastery feels earned.
The challenge is still steep, but the curve is fairer than the first game's, and every boss pattern rewards study, from the blazing Phoenix Magnion to the swooping Hellbat Schilt. With two cartridges and a link cable, two players can also compete head-to-head in Time Attack, Enemy Battle and Get Item. Mega Man Zero 2 is where the Zero series hit its stride, and on an original Game Boy Advance it shows off just how tight and responsive Inti Creates' action has always been.
Mega Man Zero 2, known in Japan as Rockman Zero 2, is the second game in the Mega Man Zero series for the Game Boy Advance, developed by Inti Creates and published by Capcom in 2003. LAN Multiplayer: If you have two cartridges and a link cable, the players can link two GBAs and take part in a two-player game. There are three modes available to take part in: - Time Attack - Set a goal somewhere in the stage. After three tries, the player with the shortest time to the goal wins. - Enemy Battle - Defeat the most enemies from the generator within the time limit. - Get Item. - Collect the most items from the map within the time limit.
