Every Battle Network fan has an opinion about which version of the third game was the right pick. White Version makes its case with five exclusive Giga chips found only on this cartridge, Balance Y as its Netbattle reward, and MistMan claiming the contest slot that BowlMan fills in Blue. Mega Man Battle Network 3 was the series' biggest and most ambitious GBA entry, and White is one of its two equally rewarding halves.
The story pits Lan Hikari and MegaMan.EXE against a revived WWW under Dr. Wily, who is after the TetraCodes that keep Alpha, a rogue prototype of the Internet, sealed away. The N1 Grand Prix gives the plot its spine, with WWW striking between rounds, and the finale carries real emotional weight for a handheld RPG of its era. Bass.EXE resurfaces, and the closing revelations tie together threads from the first two games.
Mechanically, BN3 is the series at its most tinker-friendly. Battles still unfold in real time on the familiar grid, with chips drawn from your folder each turn, but the new Navi Customizer turns MegaMan's upgrades into a Tetris-like puzzle of Program pieces that must fit together under specific rules. Chips split into Standard, Mega and Giga classes with strict folder limits, so a single Giga chip becomes the centerpiece you build a whole folder around. Program Advances fuse three or four chips into devastating attacks, and the Virus Breeder lets you raise tame viruses on BugFrags to strengthen their chips and track down their elusive Omega forms.
Since each version lacks one contest Navi, collecting all seven title-screen stars means trading with a Blue owner. The game sold more than half a million copies in Japan and arrived in North America in 2003 as the MegaMan NT Warrior anime was spreading the franchise's reach, and the 2023 Legacy Collection has sent a new wave of players back to it. On the Game Boy Advance, White is the version for anyone who wants those exclusive Giga chips and MistMan waiting in the bracket.
Using an RPG style, you must guide Mega Man through various levels defeating enemies along the way and collecting the various chips to upgrade Mega Man's weapons and other items. Exclusive to this, the White Version, are specialy developed chips (Giga Class chips) that only the White Version of Mega Man can use. You can also trade various chips between players using either Blue or White versions of BN3. Other differences include exclusive enemy bosses in areas and a unique battle style for each games version that Mega Man can use.
