Item Description

Mario Party 7 is the last entry in the GameCube era of the franchise, and it goes out with a bang. Developed by Hudson Soft and released in 2005, it brought a fresh twist to the formula with eight-player play, two players sharing a single controller, making it one of the most chaotic and crowd-pleasing party games the GameCube ever hosted. Toadsworth invites Mario and friends on a world cruise aboard the MSS Sea Star, and Bowser, left off the guest list, sets out to ruin the trip, which gives the whole game a lively, jet-setting energy that sets it apart from earlier entries.

The boards follow the cruise around the world, from Grand Canal and Pagoda Peak to Pyramid Park, Neon Heights and Windmillville, with Bowser's Enchanted Inferno waiting at the end. Bowser takes a more active villainous role here: a gauge fills turn by turn, and every five turns Bowser Time brings him onto the board to cause trouble, some of it specific to each stage. Branching paths and 30 kinds of item Orbs, more than any other Mario Party, keep every session feeling different.

The minigame roster is deep and varied. There are 88 minigames across four-player, 1-vs-3, 2-vs-2, Battle, Duel, Bowser and DK categories, plus a dedicated set of eight-player games built around pairs sharing a controller, so there is always something to play regardless of how many people are gathered around the TV. When the group would rather skip the board entirely, Minigame Cruise goes straight to the games. As the series' send-off on the GameCube, it remains one of the liveliest party games on the console, and the one to reach for when the guest list runs past four.
