Item Description
For many players, Machamp was the very first holo they ever owned. The Base Set 2-Player Starter Set shipped with a 1st Edition Machamp as its holo, which is why this printing is catalogued as a Deck Exclusive and why 1st Edition Machamp turns up far more often than any other 1st Edition Base Set holo.
The card itself is pure 1999. Ken Sugimori's artwork shows the four-armed Superpower Pokémon flexing in full power pose, and the Pokédex entry describes punches strong enough to knock a foe clear over the horizon. As a Stage 2 Fighting Pokémon with 100 HP, Machamp hits with Seismic Toss for 60, and its Strikes Back Pokémon Power does 10 damage to any attacking Pokémon whenever an opponent's attack damages Machamp, even when Machamp is Knocked Out. Back when starter-deck battles happened at lunch tables, that counterpunch felt unstoppable.
