Item Description
Few planeswalkers have shaped how people think about black midrange like Liliana of the Veil. For three mana she arrives with three loyalty and immediately starts squeezing the opponent: her +1 makes each player discard a card, which hurts far less when your own hand is already empty or full of cards you'd rather have in the graveyard. Her -2 forces a player to sacrifice a creature, cutting straight past hexproof and indestructible threats.
That pairing of symmetrical discard and an edict made her a long-running fixture of Jund and other grindy black decks in Modern and Legacy since her Innistrad debut. In Commander she rewards builds that profit from discarding, such as madness, reanimation or graveyard strategies. And if she survives to -6, her ultimate splits a player's permanents into two piles and makes them sacrifice one of the piles, usually leaving them with half a board or less.
This is the Modern Masters 2017 printing, collector number 76, a non-foil mythic featuring Steve Argyle's art.
