Item Description
According to its flavor text, lightning struck the cliffs, the ore became steel, the steel became these greaves, and the lightning never left. That is a fine description of how the card plays. Lightning Greaves is a two-mana Equipment with an equip cost of zero that gives the equipped creature haste and shroud, so anything you cast can attack immediately and can't be targeted by spells or abilities.
The free equip is the magic. During your main phase you can move the Greaves onto your newest creature without spending a single mana, so every threat you play arrives ready to swing and safe from targeted removal. That is why it shows up in so many Commander decks; EDHREC's rankings place it among the most-played cards in the format. The trade-off is that shroud also blocks your own Auras and pump spells, so move it off a creature first when you want to target it.
This is the Commander 2015 printing, collector number 257, illustrated by Jeremy Jarvis, in non-foil, featuring the classic artwork from the card's original Mirrodin printing.
