Item Description
Nothing deflates a Commander player faster than watching a freshly cast general eat a removal spell before it ever swings. Lightning Greaves solves that for two mana and no ongoing cost. Equipped creature gains haste and shroud, and because the equip cost is zero, you can move the Greaves onto whatever you just cast any time you could cast a sorcery. The new arrival attacks immediately and can't be targeted by spells or abilities while it wears them.
The artifact debuted in the original Mirrodin set and has since become a reflexive inclusion in Commander, where protecting one key creature often decides the game. Experienced players know the single wrinkle: shroud also blocks your own targeted spells and Auras, so you simply re-equip the Greaves to another creature for free before pumping or enchanting the first one. That free hop around the board is a big part of the fun, turning a two-mana artifact into a bodyguard that goes wherever the action is.
This is the Commander 2016 printing, collector number 260, a non-foil uncommon featuring Jeremy Jarvis's art and the card's familiar flavor text about lightning that strikes the cliffs and never leaves the steel.
