Item Description
Lightning Greaves costs two mana to cast and nothing to equip, and that zero changes everything. The equipped creature has haste and shroud, so whatever you just cast can attack right away and can't be the target of spells or abilities, removal included. Because equipping is free, you can move the Greaves onto each new threat the moment it arrives, as long as it is your main phase.
In Commander that is a dream for any deck built around its general: cast your commander, attach the Greaves for free and swing immediately while dodging targeted removal. EDHREC's rankings place it among the most-played cards in the whole format. The one catch is that shroud also stops you from targeting your own creature with Auras or pump spells, so experienced players shift the Greaves to another creature at the right moment.
Lightning Greaves first appeared in Mirrodin and has been a preconstructed-deck regular ever since. This is the Commander (2011) printing, from the original five preconstructed decks that launched Commander as an official product line, in non-foil.
