Item Description

Lightning Greaves is the reason so many Commander creatures get to attack the turn they arrive. This two-mana colorless Equipment gives the equipped creature haste and shroud, and its equip cost is zero. Cast a creature, move the Greaves onto it for free, and it is swinging immediately while also dodging targeted removal.

That equip cost of zero is the magic. You can shift the Greaves to whichever creature needs it most every turn, protecting your commander until it is safe and then passing the boots to the next threat. Shroud cuts both ways, since your own auras and targeted pump spells can't touch the equipped creature either, but most players happily accept that trade. It is among the most widely played cards in all of Commander and fits in any color. The Greaves first appeared in Mirrodin, and their flavor text tells of lightning striking iron ore that became steel and then greaves, with the lightning never really leaving.

This is the Commander 2019 printing, collector number 217, illustrated by Michael Komarck, in non-foil. Komarck's crackling boots make it a fine copy to drop into a new deck.
