Item Description
Every LEGO bin eventually becomes a pile with no instructions, and LEGO Worlds is that pile turned into a video game. Traveller's Tales' 2017 open-world sandbox drops you into procedurally generated landscapes built entirely from LEGO bricks, from rolling hills and dense forests to scorching deserts and tropical islands, and every bit of it can be torn apart and rebuilt one brick at a time. Unlike the studio's licensed LEGO games, there is no film or comic to follow; the story is whatever you decide to build.
The toolset is where the fun lives. Large-scale landscaping tools raise mountain ranges or carve out valleys in seconds, a building tool lets you work brick by brick, and prefabricated structures drop in when you want a house, a castle or a pirate ship without the effort. The Discovery system rewards curiosity: scan new characters, creatures, vehicles and objects as you explore, and they join your library for use in any world.
Getting around is a treat in itself, by helicopter, dragon, motorbike or even gorilla, and the worlds you visit are populated by characters and creatures that interact with you and each other in unexpected ways. Helping residents with their requests earns Gold Bricks, which unlock travel to new worlds on the way to becoming a Master Builder, giving the free-form building a gentle sense of progression.
Co-op lets a friend build alongside you, which suits families and creative players who want a relaxed, imaginative game without a ticking clock. It is the closest the LEGO video games came to capturing the living-room floor, where the best part was never the set on the box but what you made once the instructions were gone.
