What happens when a LEGO game borrows the actual voices of Middle-earth? LEGO The Lord of the Rings answers with a brick-built trilogy that pulls its dialogue straight from Peter Jackson's films and sets it to Howard Shore's score. Gandalf's warnings, Boromir's last stand and Sam's loyalty all land with the weight of the movies, and then a minifigure loses its head or trips over a pot, and the whole thing becomes delightfully, uniquely LEGO.
Traveller's Tales' 2012 adventure follows Frodo from the Shire to Mount Doom across The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Each member of the Fellowship brings an ability to the puzzles: Legolas fires arrows at distant targets, Gimli smashes through tough obstacles, Frodo can slip on the Ring to turn invisible, and the Phial of Galadriel lights the way through dark places. Swapping between them to solve each set piece keeps the classic LEGO formula fresh, and the big battles at Helm's Deep and the Pelennor Fields are as fun to smash through as they sound.
Between story chapters, Middle-earth itself opens up for exploration, with familiar locations to revisit, characters to unlock, side quests to complete and hidden items to collect. The cast is enormous, ranging from Aragorn and Arwen to Gollum and the Witch-king, and a crafting system lets you forge special mithril items once you have the blueprints.
Drop-in co-op makes it an ideal shared adventure, and the film audio gives it an emotional sincerity unusual for the series. It is the LEGO game that took a fantasy epic seriously while never forgetting to laugh, and a lovely way to relive the whole trilogy on the Wii with a partner at your side.

Based on The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy, LEGO The Lord of the Rings follows the original storylines of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, taking players through the epic story events reimagined with the humor and endless variety of LEGO play. Trusted with the dangerous task to destroy an ancient magical ring that threatens all that is good, Frodo is forced to leave his peaceful home. But the ring wants to be found and the road to Mount Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed, will be perilous and riddled with Orcs and fouler things. To help Frodo, a Fellowship is formed —Aragorn the Ranger, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir a Man of Gondor, and Frodo’s Hobbit friends Sam, Merry and Pippin. Players relive the legend through the LEGO minifigures, as they explore wonders, solve timeless riddles, and overcome endless foes in their quest to destroy the Ring.
