Item Description
A military academy, a class that should not exist, and an empire drifting toward civil war: Trails of Cold Steel builds its story on that combustible mix. At Thors Military Academy in the town of Trista, students have always been sorted by birth, nobles in one class and commoners in another, until the creation of Class VII, which throws both together. Rean Schwarzer, the adopted son of a minor baron, finds himself leading a group that includes the fiercely anti-noble Machias Regnitz and the aristocrat Jusis Albarea, alongside Alisa, Elliot, Laura, Fie, Emma and Gaius, and getting them to stop arguing long enough to fight together is the first challenge.
The game moves to a school calendar. Classes and exams give way to free days, when you spend bonding points on events with classmates, explore the shifting floors of the academy's Old Schoolhouse, and take on requests around Trista. Each month Class VII heads out on a field study to a different corner of the Erebonian Empire, and those trips slowly reveal the political fault lines between the great noble houses and the reformist government that will define the whole arc.
Combat is turn-based with real tactical weight. Positioning matters on the battlefield, crafts and orbal arts powered by the ARCUS unit offer a wide toolkit, and the new Tactical Link system ties everything to the story's friendships: knock an enemy off balance and a linked partner follows up with an extra attack, with link abilities growing stronger as bonds deepen. The friendships you build on free days pay off directly in battle, which makes the slow-burn school life feel purposeful.
Nihon Falcom launched the game on PS3 and PS Vita together in Japan in 2013, and XSEED brought it West in 2015 with the Falcom Sound Team jdk soundtrack intact. As the sixth main Trails game and the opening of the Erebonia arc that continues through Cold Steel II, III and IV, it is the doorway into a saga that runs for hundreds of hours, and its ending leaves you desperate for the next chapter, which also came to the Vita.

About the game
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is the sixth installment in the main Trails series, serving as the beginning to the Erebonia arc. The game follows Rean Schwarzer and his fellow students of "Class VII" at Thors Military Academy, a newly formed class at the academy which is the only one not segregated by social class, composing of both Erebonian nobility and commoners. The basic gameplay is nearly identical to the previous entries with a few changes. The biggest change to the battle system and also counting as a brand new feature is the "Tactical Link System". The "Tactical Link" allow players follow up with three different kinds of link attacks, dealing additional damage and providing various other benefits. "Tactical Link" becomes a more useful asset to the player as the story progress and characters level up their "Link Levels" with other characters. As the link levels increase, you will obtain new link abilities such as healing the link partner or increase the CP gain of the partner.
