Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
There is something gleefully rule-breaking about a card that turns an empty library into a trophy. Laboratory Maniac is a three-mana blue 2/2 Human Wizard whose only ability rewrites how decking works: if you would draw a card while your library has no cards in it, you win the game instead.
Lab Man became the blueprint for a whole family of combos. Players paired it with Demonic Consultation, Tainted Pact or self-mill engines to empty their own libraries on purpose, then drew one more card for the win, and later cards like Jace, Wielder of Mysteries and Thassa's Oracle built on the same idea. In Commander and casual play it is still a thrill to assemble, and a 2/2 body for three mana means it can sit on the table looking harmless until the moment the library runs dry.
This is the Ultimate Masters printing from 2018, collector number 61, an uncommon reprint of the original Jason Felix artwork from Innistrad, in non-foil. It keeps the classic flavor text, too: "His mind whirled with grand plans, never thinking of what might happen if he were to succeed."
