Item Description
Kresh the Bloodbraided grows from every creature that dies, on either side of the table. Whenever another creature dies, you may put +1/+1 counters on Kresh equal to that creature's power, so combat trades, chump blocks, sacrifices and an opponent's removal all feed the five-mana 3/3 until it towers over the board.
Kresh comes from the savage Jund shard of Shards of Alara, where only predators thrive, and he has long been a favorite Jund commander. Sacrifice outlets turn every token and spent creature into counters, and Fling-style effects turn a giant Kresh into a finishing blow. His flavor text is a perfect bit of world-building: "Each of his twenty-two braids is bound with bone and leather from a foe."
This is the From the Vault: Legends printing, collector number 5, illustrated by Steve Argyle, in foil, from the 2011 foil-only collection of fifteen legendary creatures drawn from across Magic's history.
