Item Description
In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft's search leads her to Kitezh, the legendary lost city hidden in the Siberian wilderness. The Secret Lair Tomb Raider drop turned that destination into a land card, printing Academy Ruins under the name Kitezh, Sunken City, and the fit is perfect: a land about digging lost treasures back out of the ruins. Its flavor text, a line from Lara herself, says as much about lost things being meant to be found.
Underneath the new name is a Commander favorite. Academy Ruins taps for colorless mana, or, for two mana (one of it blue) and a tap, puts an artifact card from your graveyard on top of your library. Artifact decks use it to rebuy their best pieces again and again: a destroyed Sol Ring, a sacrificed Wurmcoil Engine, a key combo artifact. Pair it with Mindslaver and you can take control of an opponent's turn over and over in a famous lock. It first appeared in Time Spiral as the ruin of the old Tolarian Academy, and it has kept artifact players happy ever since.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 1506, a borderless foil illustrated by Eliz Roxs, printed under the name Kitezh, Sunken City.
